Disc Shield on Blockbuster games?

I just bought a used gamecube game and it has a thin clear sticker on the disc. It states that removing the sticker will cause permanent damage. Has anyone ever tried removing this?

it will peal off the backing which will kill the disk.

i read someplace. (IGN or OPM) that thoes disk shiled thing can unweight the CD and cause it to spin funny and eventually kill you PS2/Xbox/GC

you cant take them off without runing teh game.
