Hi..all was well up til 2 hours ago...System was running fine at 1650 with a Athlon XP1700 at 11x150 with winxp

I changed a memory setting and increased the memory voltage and boom...my liteon 24102b cdrw stops working...put cd..light stays on and either no thing but spins or eject the cd

I have done all below at default cpu and bios settings...
I have tried everything...cleared the cmos jumper...no.
Things get worse..I unplug it from the mobo..power plug and ide cable....both end replug it in...and now tray goes in and out on boot and while running...so I shutdown and clear cmos...unplug and boot winxp...shutdown connect it back up and same crap....so I take it out of the system and try in my trust intel bx system and load up ..no tray in and out and now can read a cd

So I know the Liteon works...cds work in the toshiba cdrom I have....

I have even tried to reflash the 6G bios which was on the mobo via factory...and replace the liteon back in...and know no tray problems but still all it does is spin and eject the cd....this occurs with a cdr or pressed cd..MS HOME ESSENTIALS..original disc...

I am using the most update firmware on the Liteon 5S54

any idea???

My configuration:
300w antec power supply
Athlon XP 1700+
KR7A-RAID bios 6g
512 crucial ram pc2100
tosh 48x cdrom master IDE 1
Liteon 24102b master IDE2..I even tried it as master on IDE1
MAxtor 40gb HPT 372 ide 3..master
maxtor 30 gb..ide 4..master
radeon 64 mg
sb live..pci slot 3
realtek nic ..pci slot 4
adaptec 2906 pci slot 6

Here is a small update..the Liteon now seems to be incompatable with the Abit KR7A-RAID..at least in my cases

I moved the Acer cdrw to the Abit board..not a problem...

So I powered down..removed the Acer...plugged Liteon back....cleared the cmos by jumper and battery removal...wiated 15 min...put back..gues what..same crap...drive spins...ejects cd

So it looks like the Abit is going back and will try a Soyo dragon plus...damn....

I just have no idea why all of a sudden the Abit would reject the Liteon

Sorry man, but I get a giggle every time I read about somebody who has a rig running right and then overclocks and screws things up. I have nothing against OCing and I understand the need for more speed. Cracks me up, though.

Thank you for the inspiring words Happy Puppy but the Abit mobo was not perfect before O/Cing ..the board would not do a warm reboot from winxp or after setting the bios sinceit would not recognize my Athlon 1700 as such but as a Athlon 1100.....so enter bios make changes and the system gives a long beep and hangs...this was at defaults

There is no reason any memory changes should have effected the liteon and once cleared it should have gone away...
The Liteon works perfect in my intel bx piii700@945 without a hitch....

The Abit is being RMA and try another board...

Hello Nealh...did you make sure that autoinsert is OFF? I only have dma and disconnect enabled in device manager. Had this problem on win98. I have used Liteon on xp and it was OK.

P.S. My PIII-500 has never seen anything but 620Mhz in my Soyo 6BA+! :D

Stupid question but where is auto insert I check device manager in XP and I can not find it... under properties for the drive I set everything to take no action..so no matter what cd it sees it should not try to auto play

I even tried to read a cd by booting into dos with cd rom support..no luck

I will go to my XP machine and see. Also, you may want to put a cd in Liteon holding the shift key to see if that works.

OK, I am on XP now....

Open MY COMPUTER and right click on Liteon drive letter.
Click properties and you will see auto play! :D

Actually, you should get PowerToys for XP...it includes tweakui for XP.
