Disappointed by MechWarrior 4, what is your opinion folks?

Now I have played that game for a while and see that there are no improvements over the MechWarrior 3, in fact. Actually, I liked MechWarr 3 much better, it had more sophisticated aiming system and the mechs were easier to use. I must say this is a downgraded version of MW3. Did not see a single improvement in this game, and that small video window with those BS talking people is just ridiculous, for 5 years old boys.
What are your experiences with this game?
Even the graphics was not much better.

the main point for MW4 is it's multiplayer capability.. which is the fall for MW3. MW3 has better physics engine, and better storyline (dynamic salvage). but it's multiplayer mode is just simple NOT up to the standard even at that time.. and Zipper Interactive didn't bother to fix it.. (and Microprose got bought out then, which leaves no body to maintain even the website).

MW4's multiplayer ability is very good, except it didn't have co-op mode.. the story line is too simple linear and static(all M$ games are like that). fortunately there's at least 2 patches that'll come out to fix bugs and hopefully improvements for MW4. All I want now is a mission editor (it's promised by the producer, and I think they are working on it)

interesting bit: MW4 is produced by FASA Interactive, suppose to come out after MW2 did, but the project is severely delayed (dunno why), and later on FASA Interactive got bought out by M$.. in the meantime Microprose got the license to produce the game, so they contract Zipper Interactive to do it.. (and now Zipper is also producing games for M$).

all M$ games are like that

Microsoft don't make the games. They publish it.

EDIT

I tried the MW4 early test demo. Is the controls the same? I hope you can use the mouse, cause using the keyboard to aim is not an easy task. :)

well, not necessarily.. They did bought out BAO (the Flight Simulator gang), and FASA Interactive.. others like Digital Anvil, Ensemble Studio and Zipper are of course a seperate entity... for now.

yes, you can still use the mouse to aim.. but I use a joystick.. more fun this way..

I like it much better than MW3. The worst thing about MW3 was that you could kill opposing mechs too easily just by blowing off one leg. This is not possible in MW4. Also, I like the gameplay better and find the graphics to be superior. The missions are also more interesting. MW3 never captured my imagination like MW4 has.

I think the game was pretty good. The campaign was horrible...finished it on the easiest setting and went to multiplayer. Considering it kept me away from Counterstrike and the like for over 2 months, it was pretty dang good :) The graphics were sweet, controls workable, low low ping times even on my parents 33k and generally good people to play with online. Though I agree that a mission editor would make the game rock

No good. I'm a player of the paper version and I'm a purist. I HATE all the restrictions placed on mech customisation, and changing all the armor values and stuff.

Graphics were not that much of a big step over MW3 either.....very disappointed.

Where's my Ultra Autocannon 20?!?!? :|

AndyHui: I also started on the paper version.. and that's one big thing I don't like in MW4.. the mech design is horrible.. and yes, I want UAC-20 as well.. imagine a dual UAC-20 mech..

Another thing I don't like is the internal structure setting in MW4.. makes head shot/legging not possible, and it's sorta illogical.

but all this changes I think were made the game more balanced in multiplayer games.. When I used to play MW3 in multiplayer, I'll take my dual UAC-20 mech to bust people left and right :D

and one more thing: the mechs are ugly.. and hopefully the new company that take over Battletech will have better designs out..
