For years the tray icons in XP would frequently disappear, notably the volume icon, and the Speedfan temp icon. The program was running however, restarting the prog fixed the prob till the next boot.
SP1 and SP2 never changed anything, and I tried everything including formats. Well it's fixed now.......
Go to my computer/my network places/hide icons for networked UPnP devices. Click the link and make sure you hide those devices. Fixed the problem for me. If this is old news, I'm surprised. I asked this same question right here many times. Happy now.....😀
