Disappearing ShortCut keys??

I've had this problem under Win2k and Win98: when you right click on a shortcut there is a box for assinging a shortcut key. Like for Word I assign Ctrl + Alt + W to open the program using this key combo. It will work until I reboot. The key combo is still assigned in the shortcut properties but using the key combo will no longer open the program.

Any one familiar with this?

Hmm.. Try not doing it the regular way (Right-clicking an icon on the desktop or the Start Menu). Try doing it the Microsoft way:

Start Menu -> Settings -> Taskbar and Start Menu -> "Advanced" Tab -> "Advanced" button.

Now, in that "explorer", assign your shortcuts. Supposedly, this helps Windows monitor what you are assigning.. I started doing it that way because Windows would assign but not use some shortcuts...

Thanks. I tried it but it didn't work. :(
Perhaps this is one of those Windows features that never worked right and never gets fixed. Anyone else able to get shortcut combinations to work in Win2k? If so what tricks did you use?
