Disappearing Quick Launch!!!

A ghost is in our computer. . . Suddenly, our Quick Launch icons began disappearing. Also, our Recent Documents on the Start Menu is always empty. Can anyone help? Thanks.
 
Is the taskbar locked? Right-click it and uncheck "Lock the Taskbar", then make sure your Quick Launch bar wasn't resized. Not sure about the Recent Documents issue.
 
I right clicked to bring the Task Bar back and then resized it to show all icons. Works for a while and then disappears the next day (we normally leave our PC running). Thanks.
