disappearing cursor in win xp

I can only see my cursor when my cordless logitech mouse is moving. It's quite annoying when I'm editing a document. I've read elsewhere that that there is a "hide cursor" option in the software for some mice. However, I can't seem to find that option in my software to de-select. I'm running win xp and things were going great for about 2 months. I think this started happening when I downloaded the last update. But I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Go to Mouse properties->pointer options->visibilities->uncheck "hide pointer while typing"
