ok I installed a plexwriter 8432 .......booted up...Bingo there it is.. on next reboot it disappears. Under device manager it shows something there (CD rom drive) but under "my computer" its not there. and it shows both as the same drive{f} under device manager.

Also when trying to install direct cd the software loads and on reboot I get "while initializing device IOS a windows protection error occured"

any Ideas on either.......Yea I know adaptec software bites ...so what should I use?

MSI BXMAster
128 meg pc133
wd 20.5 on udma66
cdrw master on primary ide channel
40x cdrom slave on secondary ide channel

kavrok...have you considered IRQ issues? what sound card are you using? Also, believe or not but you may have better luck with the cd-rom on the primary channel and the plex on the secondary channel. i had a similar problem, my POS soundblaster was causing the secondary channel to disappear if the sb emulation was on. so i disabled that, put the plex as secondary master and works great.

*edit* yes adaptec sucks, try nero, feurio or cdwin

Moving burner to 2nd master with cd as 2nd slave didnt help still disappeared ....seems kinda flaky. Using aureal sq 2500 . will try moving to another ide spot

i had the same problem, are you running win2k? Cuz thats when i started having the problem... and it was a problem with adaptec's stuff. I found a page on how to fix it, somewheres deep in adaptec's site, but i cant seem to find it again. 😡

I dont have any software loaded right now. Win98 se.. no matter where I put the plex it still only recognizes it as a (cd rom drive).. at least before it would recognize it as a px 8432 (or whatever). When I go to "my computer" I see 1 cd its my regular old cd and I can still play music thru it. BUT.. If I go to device manager under cdrom it shows 2 drives . the (cd rom drive) and the NEC-289..............AND It sees both as drive F... 3 partitions on HD... I've deleated them both and redetected both , tried to only detect the burner . tried the burner as master on both channels slave on both and still I cant get it to detect as a plex writer. And there arent any drivers on plex site ,says they come in win 98.

Oh i fibbed I do have plexmanager 2k onhere.

I have exact same problem with my Asus A7V. I installed latest VIA 4in1 driver and it was solved. But since you are using an BX board, I dunno if my info have any help.

Hey I think I got it{again)😀.........I put the plex as master on 2nd and cd as master on prime IDE. Then went into device manager and removed hard drive controller. so windows had to tedetect and set up. everything good so far.
