Ha, I remember this car being sold on eBay, but I am pretty sure the doors no longer functioned. A neat gimmick, for sure, but the designers definitely fell asleep during their "keep it simple" lectures in school.

What if you're parked over a rock or speed bump?

Still, seems a good way to get a LARGE OPEN AREA for loading people/stuff, since so many people refuse to buy minivans with more-practical sliding doors.

yea in the video you MUST have 6" ground clearance under the car. this won't sell well to it's target demographic

the video on the home page has a screen shot showing a coke can measuring 6" beneath the "closing" door.

Oh yeah, now I can see a bunch of neon pastel painted cars with 3" rims running around with scraped up doors to match their scraped up fart canisters.

That was not indicating that you need 6" of ground clearance

That's showing that the car still has normal ground clearance even with the disappearing door. It's showing that ground clearance is maintained, not showing how much is needed.

IIRC, Ford toyed with the idea of making this an option on the Mark VIII, but eventually decided against it for complexity reasons.
