Disabling The Map In Games Really Gives You More Of An "Adventure"

In real life you can't look at a map and fire a gun at the same time. You have to put your gun down and look at the map, then put the map down and pick up your gun.

I was just playing GTA5 with the map disabled and it really forces you to be more aware of your surroundings. You can look at the map by pressing pause.

Also you have to "search" for enemies instead of just looking where enemies are on the radar.
 
I've recently played a game, Black Myth Wukong, where many have criticized the game for lacking a map. It really didn't bother me, since I grew up playing games without a map. Sure, takes longer to roam and eventually you have a mental layout of the area, which, for me, is more immersive.

Even games with a map, say, ER, I only use to fast travel. I don't use it when in a dungeon or anywhere else, and just too lazy to pull it up.
 
I liked how Firewatch did it. You could turn off tracking on your map so your map basically became a paper map you'd have to use with your compass to spot landmarks to know where you were and to be able to get where you wanted to go. Was kind of fun playing the game the way I hike (eg map and compass, no GPS).
 
Escape from Tarkov has this feature as well. If you want to look at a map, it's a paper map that you have to write on yourself to make notes because the game tells you nothing. If you want to look at the map, you have to pull it out of your backpack which leaves you vulnerable to enemies.
