Hello,

I have a loaner laptop with NT workstation and when I boot it up it asks for a password. Is there anyway I can bypass the password to get in? is there a default password that NT uses? The laptop in not connected to a network at all. I just want to bypass the password - which I don't have - and get in do some work.

Thx.

While there are things that can do to get into the workstation I wouldnt attempt it on loaner pc. You could try some basic passwords if you know one of the accounts, administrator is one. Get the info from the party you got the pc from.

did you try it without entering a password leaving the user name the way it is?

Ben, that's not a completely accurate statement.

Rudee,
Here, I think the utility located by following THIS LINK can help you do what you need to. It's a "special" version of Linux designed to mount the SAM file in Win NT or Win2K. It allows the user to manipulate all user accounts and passwords,...Including Administrator.
However, it's up to you to figure out how to use it. Follow the instructions on the page. If they are too complicated for you then you have no business even using this program.

Also, JoLLyRoGer assumes NO liability for any negative results of your using this program on your machine.

Enjoy!!;)

BTW.
This is meant to be used as a last resort. If you know who the machine belongs to, get the password from them. Running this program can be a little risky, especially if you're not absolutely sure of what your doing.

IMHO

Does anyone know if the SAM info is stored in the same place in NT as 2K? If so, couldn't he just delete the SAM file, reboot, and just hit enter/return at the Administrator login? I know this works in 2K...

ha, well .... there is a million and 1/2 ways to get root privilages in nT (ok administator).

could put it on a network (if the computer has a nic setup properly) and find the open ports, find the expliots to expliot them (to hard........ hmmm lets see).. alright, you have access to another nt computer of same version? you could swap out sams (i don't know if this will work, sound interesting) so you can login to your laptop and change your passwords then.
use the sam pw extractor.

uhrm...... sorry, i used to know 101 ways to get into windows 2000, but i forgot all them once i moved to linux :( sorry

wait a second.................................... why don't you just format the computer and reinstall windows98 or ME. sounds like a better idea anyways for you
