What is the proper way to do this.. i want to install a pci video card in a frinds system...his onboard is only 4M 🙁

You should be able to select 1st display device in the bios. Even though the video is onboard, many of them still use an AGP bus. You just choose initial display device = pci. You may be able to go disable That's speaking from what I've seen. I know otherboards you can just go disable onboard video. Same with sound, just in case.

It depends on the system you're working with. An onboard video with only 4MB may require changing a jumper setting on the board. If you've got the manual it's not a big deal to figure out which one. If you don't have the manual, scruntize the board itself. Some manufacturers actually label things enough for you figure it out. If not, go the manufacturer's site and get the info there.

you can try to disabling it in bios (usually under integrated peripherals). if there's no such option, try to set the video card memory to zero.
