Disabling KDE Autostart at Boot

I recently set up with Mandrake Linux and I enabled KDE to autostart on boot. My problem is that the resolution in X is set to 1268 x 1024 and the monitor I have now can only display 640x480. Atl+Crtl+B-space kills X, but immediately restarts. Is there a way around this?
Thanks.

you could switch to a virtual terminal and edit /etc/inittab so that your default runlevel is 2 or 3 instead of 5. it should look like this:

id:5:initdefault:

just change the 5 to 2 or 3, not sure which you would want in mandrake. i think 3 would be it, but someone more familiar w/ mandrake would be a better person to tell you that. or have a look at their site or something.

heres a link to debian's explanation of the boot process
and one from redhat

You could always change the res in 'xf86config' after switching to a term. Just set all your depths to a max of 640x480. Then go back to your login screen, and do a three finger poke. :D
