Disabling DHCP?

I have a Netgear RO318 DSL 8 port DSL Router/Switch in a small business client that I maintain. The business wants to upgrade to a VPN setup requiring (3) static IP's. The parent company is providing a Netscreen 5XP VPN router to replace the RO318 so my question is:

Can I disable the WAN function of RO318 and use it as standard 8 port switch with the VPN Router uplinked to the RO318?

just disable DHCP and go... just dont use the WAN port. Also, U may want to disable RIP and IGMP

...and assign it a LAN ip address in the correct subnet, but different from that of the new gateway router.

Thanks guys.

I was thinking about not using the WAN port and disabling the DHCP but I wasn't sure. Because of time contraints, I replaced the RO318 with a Netgear FS308 switch so I won't have to mess with the DHCP. This way I'll have a replacement router in case the business wants to drop the VPN issue and convert back or the VPN router goes down.

I have a similiar (well, somewhat) question.

I just moved to DSL from cable. I have been using a Linksys Wireless Access Point/Router/Switch, but the new DSL modem I got is also a router (which is not easily ocnfigured into a bridge) so I wanted to just use the WAP as a switch. Is there an easy way to set it up so I can use it just as a switch, but still use the WAN port as an uplink port? (So I can save a port) or isn't it worth messing with?
