when i boot up (in win2k) it pulls up and auto update utility for my sblive xgamer.. i dont like it. i like to keep my sys tray as empty as possible.

im new to the nt environment.. a) is there a way in the updaters setting to take it off boot up? or b) can i disable the specific service from being able to load?

Well as far that I have found out, is that the only way to disable the update feature, is to disable the launcher.
Some programs are just so lame 🙁

Yes, I have disabled everything now on start up. You can disable if from the Launcher by going into Live Task, and then by the light bulb, click monitor for live news update
