Whenever I install new software, I always exit any background programs with icons showing on the lower right of the taskbar. There are several, and it's a hassle.
Do you really need to close them all? I would certainly close anti-virus and anti-spyware programs before installing anything, but what about more innocuous seeming ones like Windows Messenger, Roboform, APC powerchute, InCD, nVidia settings, ATI Control center, Quicktime, Adobe Reader, etc., etc., etc.?
I've always wondered about this. If it doesn't show up in the Applications window of the Windows Task Manager, does it have to be removed?
