Disabling a brinks alarm?

Reel

Apparently, the alarm in this home was not disconnected when the previous owner moved out. A couple nights ago, it attempted to call out using the phone line but the phone line is disconnected so it went into trouble state and started beeping. I cancelled it and thought everything would be ok. It did it again yesterday. Is there any way I can disable the alarm or set it on some standalone unmonitored mode?

i'd call the alarm company, even if i wasn't a subscriber. maybe they will disconnect it for free, or hook it up for your use. i wouldn't mess with it. but that's just me.

I called and they told me to pull the power source, pull the black wire from the battery, and unplug the phone line. I asked if there was any way to operate this in a standalone mode and she said no. I figured there had to be but maybe it is set to constantly poll the monitoring company.
