(Shirley, Long Island - WABC, October 19, 2006) - Arraignments today after a shocking sexual assault on Long Island. A young man, developmentally disabled was attacked in a popular bowling alley. Police have two suspects in custody for the attack.
Eyewitness News reporter Carolina Tarazona is live at the police precinct in Shirley.
The police are expected to hold a press conference to give us more detail about this brutal attack.
We know one of the suspects, a teen was arraigned yesterday. The other suspect, also a teen is apparently still at the 70th precinct.
Police called attack deprived. A 21-year-old maintenance worker developmentally disabled was followed into the men's bathroom at the Shirley Lanes bowling alley and sodomized.
Investigators say the Sunday night attack was the work of 19-year-old Steven Rodriguez and 17-year-old Michael Lunsford.
Police say one man held down the victim in the bathroom, while the other sexually assaulted him with a plumber's tool, a snake used to clear drains.
The victim was found on the floor, bleeding with severe internal injuries.
Eyewitness news last night went to the address Rodriguez gave police but no one seemed to know him.
A man who answered the door said he was visiting his sister's house and that he didn't live there. The man also told Eyewitness News, he has no idea if his sister know the suspect Rodriguez.
Both Rodriguez and Lunsford are charged with aggravated sexual assault in the first degree. These charges carry a sentence of up to 25 years behind bars.
