Unlike Win9x, Win2K has a different shutdown process and is not subject to the data write problems associated with systems that run too fast for the write cache on the hard drive to be cleared at shutdown.
two reasons really,
-although my system is on a ups, not all that I use are.
-don't like to wait for removable media to clear the cache, even when it's been idle before being ejected.
