Disable "One or more wireless networks is available" prompt?

I'd like to disable the ballon popup, found immediately above the "Wireless Network Connection" that I see from time to time that 'helpfully' reminds me I can see multiple wireless connections. How can I completely stop that balloon from popping up?

XPSP1. No, I can't upgrade to SP2. I'm only using the *core* XP wireless tools - the vendor tools for the wireless NICs are NOT installed. In other words, there are NO vendor GUI tools at all - only the XP SP1 supplied wireless tools.

Anyone?

Are you actually using the wireless connection? If not, just disable it and you'll never see that prompt again...

If you are actually using the wireless connection, go into the wireless connection properties (right-click on the connection icon next to the system clock and select Properties), click on the Advanced button, and uncheck the box labeled "Automatically connect to any available network". Click OK and remove everything from the Preferred networks box except for your own wireless network. Click OK again and you should no longer see that prompt while you are actively connected to your network. While you are 'roaming' and your computer detects a new wireless network you'll still get the prompt letting you know that a network is available, but it shouldnt' interrupt you any more while you are already using the connection.

Unfortunately, I can't disable the wireless connection; it's required. I just want to disable all of those annoying popups.

I'll try your second suggestion - thanks!
