Basically what I want to do is use the speakers on my laptop and hook my ButtKicker up to the headphone jack so it can get the audio.

I really like the speakers on my laptop (true built-in 5.1...sounds very nice!) but have no way of getting audio to my ButtKicker except through the headphone jack which then disables my laptop speakers. Ive looked everywhere on my PC and there doesnt seem to be a way to disable headphone detection as there was on my X-Fi in my HTPC...

The audio outs that I have are HDMI (useless) and a headphone/digital out and a microphone input.

Anyone know what I can do?

Well, now I hooked up my USB mic (M-Audio Producer USB) and it has a headphone out jack built in...anyway to set 2 "Default Devices" in Windows 7? Some kinda hack or registry thing? If so, this would fix EVERYTHING haha!

AFAIK, that is a hardware device contained in the headphone/ext spkr port of most laptops. IOW, when you insert the 3.5mm stereo pin connector, it pushes a small shunt which shorts out the internal speakers.

What happened to me was the following. There was a 3,5 jack plugged in the front audio out. I think I accidentaly hit it and when I took it out the 3,5 jack the laptop refused to play the music through the speakers. When I looked inside the jack to check whether things were broken I saw a red light (seems like the slot is also optical?) so that means the laptop thought something was inside the audio out.
The audio out still functions normally though when I plug in a headset, I can hear the music perfectly It's only the internal speakers that refuse to work, even when the headset is unplugged.
So your post makes sense to me...
