I need to find a way to disable ACPI powerdown in windows 8. My BIOS does not have the feature.

I'm not above cutting/rerouting wires, such as the control line to the power supply. But I would rather find a software solution. Is there one?

Desktop or laptop? What is the actual problem are you are running into?

I have a machine that tests PCI Express cards. Part of the testing includes power cycling that is controlled in part by a signal on the LPT port. The machine has been running XP for years, with ACPI disabled. With that disabled, the machine stays on which maintains the logic signal to the power cycler. (It gives you the message that says "It is now safe to turn off your computer") After being forced onto Windows 8.1, the computer now shuts off. When the computer shuts off I lose control of the LPT port signal used to drive my power cycler, which prevents the machine from power cycling. Either I disable ACPI or I have to write a new power cycle control board algorithm.

If you have been forced to 8.1, I don't see why you wouldn't also be "forced" to hardware that it is more compatible with it, but maybe that's not the problem.

Or, at least you can mention that, and the people that are doing the "forcing" can tell you to go back to XP.

Actually, what you are talking about sounds possible with a BIOS modification. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people that would be able to do this.
