633 reviews and it's across the board on ratings. I'm not sure I want to risk even $6 on it ;).

edit: Not trying to crap on the deal but I'm definately in the market for a wifi router so I seriously considered it.

It's hit or miss with these. Either you get a defective one that works for 5 minutes at a time without overheating and becoming useless or you get one that functions.

Mine was one of the defective ones. After the rebate (of a previous deal) I actually came out ahead in the end, though, so....

Great router. I've had a bunch of friends/family members buy this one and haven't had any problems. Much better than Linksys crap. I'm willing to be at least 75% of the bad reviews are idiots who can't get it set up correctly.

i might just get this to use as a regular router as mine is acting up. even without the wireless features, it should hopefully be 6 bucks worth of router.

I paid a lot more than $6 when I bought mine last year, and it was well worth it. Very dependable router.

Yea the rebate starts on 11/11 so watch out guys. So by vote do you really think it will be defective? Is there any warrenty on it?

Odds are it probably won't be defective. People who get a defective one are more likely than people who don't to leave reviews. As I said though, there are plenty of bad units out there.

That being said, my problems had nothing to do with configuration. I've setup other routers before. The problem was the router burned out after being left on for a few hours. After that, the amount of time that it would respond kept getting shorter and shorter. Factory resets and firmware upgrades were useless. It was not possible to log into the router or even ping it. Connecting to my other router (of a different brand) verified that the problem wasn't on my end. If I unplugged the router for an extended period of time and then plugged it back in, it would respond again but only for a few minutes.

I first thought the reviews on Amazon probably were left by inept users as well, but now I know differently. This particular router is more prone to failure than most. That's probably why they are practically giving them away.

i have a earlier version of this model, thing disconnects if too many connections are open. so in short, massive use of bittorrent + this router = boo. lol, have to reset it everytime it dies. anyone know if this newer version is better?
