Is it possible to set the Mac up to use the internet through file sharing?

I'd really like to avoid the multiple hundreds of dollars to upgrade to the stand-alone DW6000 system.
 
File sharing has nothing to do with Internet access, do you mean Internet Connection Sharing? If so just setup the Mac for DHCP, it should get an IP from the ICS box and use it as it's default gateway to the Internet. If DHCP doesn't work just pick an IP in the ICS range and set the IP of the ICS box as the default gateway of the Mac.
