DirectX won't upgrade to 9.0C

Some of the games I have require DirectX 9.0C to run. I've tried installing this version several times, but I always find afterwards that 9.0B is still the version on my machine. Is there anything special I need to do to upgrade? Do I need to unistall 9.0B first, and, if so, what's the best way of doing this?
Thanks!

Make sure your video supports 9.0c, other than that I have no idea, but here's a bump :)

Thanks. I have a GeForce 6800, and from what I can tell from googling, the card should support 9.0C...?

Hmm, that's just freaky then. I assume you're checking by running dxdiag?

If you aren't too far into your current install, you might try slipstreaming 9.0c into your XP install CD (along with SP2, any other patches you want, etc.) I've been using slipstreamed install discs for the last couple years now, so it's been a while since I've actually had to update DX.

Thanks. I'm not installing windows, just trying to upgrade DirectX. And I am checking with dxdiag, which keeps listing 9.0B.

Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe deleting all my DirectX files???

Maybe remove your vid card in Device Manager and let it re-install on re-boot. Then try and upgrade, maybe one of your dx files got corrupted. I did this when I had a driver issue a while back and it worked for me. Not exactly the same issue, but may be worth a shot.

Good luck!

You could also try downloading the full DX9c install package & trying to install it that way ... I don't know if it'll matter but its worth a try.

Well, found a suggestion on another site to re-download and install SP2. Had to find a copy by googling, since microsoft.com won't let me download it again. After re-installing, 9.0C is installed! I don't know why this happened, but things seem to be OK soon.
Thanks for all the help!
