DirectX Problem..........

Hello folks,

I am using Windows XP home on my computer at home. I just reinstalled a clean version of Windows XP home. I ran Dxdiag so I could run the test under the "display !" tab called "Test Direct3D" and I found what might be a problem. The test does bring up the spinning cube but the cube is spinning so fast you can barely make out that it is a cube and you cannot read the "DirectX" writing on the cube at all.

Normally I would not care but I am having graphic problems with a program that uses DirectX. When I first installed the OS, I could run the test and see the cube spinning and I did not have problems with the application. I have submitted a help request to Microsoft but I wanted some feedback from the forum as well.

What would you suggest? Should I un-install DirectX and reinstall? I am pretty sure I am running the latest and greatest version of DirectX. As I said, I am running from a 2 week old, clean OS install.

Thanks

Some of my computers have done this but otherwise they worked fine. Is everything on the computer patched and up-to-date?

I have experienced that effect on 2 machines in the past....one machine would show this behavior with vsync disabled (nvidia card) and the other one when I had ReForce enabled (Ati card)....why just these two rigs did this I don't know but everything was fine....only the dx test showed any issues....programs were fine

Well for those who replied, I thought I would update you with what worked. The rapidly spinning DirectX test box was not indicative of any problems. I had simply chosen performance over looks in the options tabs from my ATI card. When I changed the options back to balanced the cubes spun normally.

It turns out my POS ATI 9000 video card does not support DirectX 9 with the Dell supplied driver. I found a set of drivers from Omega.net which use the latest Catalyst 6.5 drivers and the game has worked fine. I get 30FPS which is not great but definitely playable.

Dell nor ATI would help on this as they want me to buy a new computer and video card. Shocking.... I know.
