Friend of mine has a Compaq 2200 with a Cyrix MediaGX processor.
It's not fast, but it works for simple games.

It's got DirectX 7.0 (Win98se) on it, & I can't get DX8 or DX9 to install.
DX setup doesn't think it's a Pentium class processor.
Anyone know of a patch/registry hack that will report it as such?
;)

The reason DirectX 8 will not install is due to the audio.

The processor emulates SB audio, so DirectX attempts to install SB certified drivers
which fail to work with the MediaGX.

You will need to search HP (Compaq) website for a Rompaq to fix this issue (I know one exsists).
Make sure you have the correct model (i.e. Pavillion\Presario 22xx)

Forget about DirectX 9.....
