DirectX - how would I know if the version I installed is OK for Win2K?

I recently did a fresh install of Win2K. OS installation was fairly uneventful as well as the installation of the components (which were installed one at a time starting from barebones). Before installing any component drivers, I made sure I installed Win2K SP2 as well as DirectX 8.0a (I'm currently downloading 8.1 for Win2K).

After installing DirectX 8.0a, I noticed that boot-up time as well as shut down now takes a very loooong time compared to right after the fresh install. Since it boots-up and shuts-down fine, I thought I'd let it ride but now it's kinda bugging me. I'm suspecting I installed a non-Win2K version of DirectX - will this cause this slowdown? I also decided to do the DirectX tests and found that I could run all tests successfully EXCEPT the AGP texturing test - the button are deactivated ('enable' and disable' buttons are grayed out). What does this mean? What other problems would you expect from installing a non-Win2K version of DirectX8.0a.

I haven't tested any games but the PC appears to work just fine.

Will an install of the 8.1 for Win2K "fix" this?

Appreciate any assists on this.

I think you are probably right about the NIC. The NIC is actually a Diamond Homefree PNA card. While the system (Iwill KK266R, Tbird 850@1015, 256MB PC150 SDRAM, GeForce 256 DDR, MX300, etc.) does boot up, it takes too long - sometimes about 7 minutes. I don't think I can get used to that. Once booted up, the PC works wonderfully. Booting down seems to be a bit too long, too.

I switched back to Win98 and everything seems back to normal. Boot up time was one big reason - another is losing some functionalities on the sound card as well as inability to play some of my new "old" games (some are DOS and tested to be incompatible with W2K).

Thanks for the info!
