I currently have a asus geforce 5700 fx 128mb,
is the newest version of direct x (9.0) Slowing down my gaming or should i go back to 8.1 for better performance, i notice playing bf 1942 (Dcx mod) i get some choppiness at the start, or maby its because i need more ram i do have 512..

Keep the latest DX version on there. You're going to need it for the latest games. Changing your DX version doesn't alter what version of DX the game uses. If it's a DX8 game... it's still a DX8 game when you install the DX9 runtime libraries.
