Why would you need to. Probably a driver issue. Going back to a earlier DX wont help you out.

There are some DirectX removal programs, but they appear mediocre at best. Generally, the best way to remove DirectX is a format and reinstall of the OS.

I agree with GP...it's likely a driver issue, and not necessarily because of DX9.

Your card my not have dx9 features, but you are going to need to run dx9 to make many newer games work.

You can but I wouldn't advise it if you don't use System Restore.

i keep having crashes
DirectX is probably one of the last things that could be causing it. The first thing you should do is update your GPU drivers and make sure you are running the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system.

putting dx9 on wasn't stupid! dx9 is needed for many games, even on your dx8 geforce3.

You can't roll back without using System Restore or the like. It's not officially supported. And yes, you generally need DX9 on there even with an older video card to play newer games (although it won't work properly unless your card supports the features the game needs). I really doubt DX9 is your problem.

I'm guessing, though, that since you went from an NVIDIA to an ATI card, that you didn't clean out the old NVIDIA drivers properly. Download Driver Cleaner 3, follow the included instructions, and you'll probably be working again...

I am running DX9c with a GF4-Ti4400 and with a GF3-Ti200 with no problems whatsoever, as it should be. You will need DX9 anyway, and it should not cause problems with your GF3.
