Has anyone out there had problems with DirectX 8? I have noticed a few. My system has been running quirky since I installed it. I am using Windows 2000 Professional. I also cannot install my Saitek Cyborg joystick anymore. If anyone knows a fix, other than reinstalling Win 2000 Pro, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The problems I had with DX8 were my frames per second slowed and there are some programs that let you remove it but I here it leaves your directory a mess..... I reinstalled windows........and I dont no were to get the remove program

chexi, you may have to wait for new drivers for your Cyborg or try reinstalling latest from
here ,Once DX8 is installed It`s hard to remove without getting problems (unless you reformat & do a clean install)so try reinstalling DX8 again see if that helps, it cannot make it any worst.

Thank you gentlemen. I have decided to (temporarily) go back to Win 98SE. I've installed the joystick without problems in Win 98SE this morning, and will upgrade to DirectX 8 tonight. We'll see how it works. I will post an update.

I hope to switch back to 2000 Pro someday. I love its general stability, even if I do lose a few FPS. I figure when my Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 GTS arrives (thanks to the Hot Deals forum), coupled with my 1ghz Tbird, I can afford to lose a few frame rates from the OS (especially since I prefer 800x600 resolution generally).

don't just assume that you will lose FPS. when i made the move from win98 to win2k, i gained 10 FPS in quake3. i was very happy with that considering my card is terrible and any increase in performance helps. i have a matrox millenium G200 (8mb AGP).

DOH! You are making my reversion back to Win98SE that much harder. If I could just find a fix for the Saitek Joystick thing. I guess I could try to reinstall 2000, then install the joystick, and finally upgrade to directx8 (last time I upgraded to DirectX 8 before instlling the stick). Hopefully I won't lose functionality at that point. The latest Cybord 3d driver on Saitek's site doesn't help. I wouldn't even update to DirectX 8 except I need it for MW4.

Your increase in FPS with your switch to Win 2000 was most likely due to the better utilization of system memory. This is another reason why I'd prefer 2000, as I will have 256mb of pc-133 RAM in that machine soon. I'd hate to waste it in Win98.
