DirectX 8.0 causes NFS3 to crash right after double-clicking the NFS3 icon!

At least it appears that way - it has happened on 2 different machines now. I installed NFS3 and it worked fine on both machines until DX8 was installed. Both machines had DX7.0a before.

Or could it be something else? I don't know what to do to get NFS3 back, and yes, I still play it!!!

what video card do you have?

For nvidia cards, I think only the 6.xx drivers run NFS3/4 correctly

Hmm, interesting - I have a Geforce DDR (Hercules). I got it to work with DirectX 7 which seems kinda strange. I haven't tried going back to DX8 yet, but I have a friend that says NFS3 works fine with DX8 and his GF2 Ultra (Creative).
