AMD today announced that it is partnering with Firaxis and 2K Games on the development of "Civilization VI," the next addition to the smash-hit turn-based strategy franchise. AMD announced that it is helping the developer take advantage of DirectX 12, including API-standardized Asynchronous Compute, and Explicit multi-adapter (MDA). This will let the game use setups that are a mixture of discrete and integrated GPUs, and mixed multi-GPU. The game is also said to feature a benchmark tool.

If Civ. VI can come even close to the awesome lategame performance of Civ. BE under Mantle, which it should with AMD helping the developers with DX12, it will make a lot of people VERY happy. :)

I now have around 265 hours in TW: Warhammer. I've been using DX12 in it for the past few days, it's something not talked about but I have noticed turn times to be faster than in DX11 mode. I suspect it's freeing up more CPU resources due to less overhead, so the CPU can process the turn faster.

For CIV 6, would love to see multi-thread AI so it isn't so stupid without mods and turn timers are blazing fast. That's really all I need, cos graphically, it isn't going to push your GPU with low poly aesthetics they are aiming for.

For anyone looking to scratch the Civ itch in the meantime, Endless Legend was really good. Great looking for a 4x game too. Interesting twist on the genre, I've enjoyed it a lot

I am really looking forward getting CIV with DX12. Thanks that AMD heavily pushes the transition to DX12 (Hitman, AOTS, TW:Warhammer and now CIV)

Yah, I really like to see games start making use of 6 or more core cpus for things like AI.

GF is a huge NV fangirl, but she also loves Civ and has a A-sync monitor.

Maybe I'll pick her up a Rx 480 on the cheap.

Sadly, I read GF as global foundries at first and your post made no sense.

I'm excited about this because I just purchased TW:warhammer, will probably purchase Doom simply because I know I can play it (not much of an FPS fan. Last one I played was Doom 2 - badly - but I did enjoy it.), and I'm ready to scratch the Civ itch after skipping 5.

Basically.... all are made for Radeon cards.

[Edit] I'm irked that my ability to play it not play a game is dependent on a card company working with the game manufacturer or outright paying them (*cough* game works*cough*).

But if it's going to happen, it might well be one company "helping" on all games I like.
