DirectX 10 games always start in "Windowed mode"

Recently started using Vista x64, so DirectX 10 is a pretty new experience for me.

As of now, I seem to be experiencing some problems with games in DirectX 10 mode.
So far I have only tested with Crysis, Crysis Warhead & Company of Heroes.

Whenever I start these games in DX10 mode, they always start in a "Windowed mode" even though I make sure the "Full screen" option checked in the game settings menu before I quit the game everytime.

However, if I reverted to DX9 mode (both the above games I mention has DX9 mode), then they will always start in "Full screen mode."

- I seem to see this problem with both Nvidia & ATI cards, therefore I don't think it's a driver problem.
- I understand that I can "alt-enter" to switch to full screen, but that sometimes messed up "ATI overdrive" & "crossfire" because they have to switch clockspeed & crossfire mode when switcing from "window" to "full-screen," and it's unstable to do so when the game is already running.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

check the graphics options of the game and make sure your resolution is set to whatever your monitor's native resolution is.

Can't explain why, this is just what I've noticed. Also, when opening the game in a non-native resolution in fullscreen (when it works that way) your mouse pointer doesn't register in the correct place.

Assassin's Creed did the same thing for me. I just alt-entered to get it to full-screen. The game lagged in DX10, though, so I just switched to DX9.

I have found that running the game as administrator usually gets them to start in fullscreen. *shrug*

I wonder if that was one of the features on Microsoft Mojave that the uninformed customer panels gushed over...

If running as Administrator worked, it means that the developer did something wrong and is using a "hack" to get to full screen instead of doing it the "right" way in userland space.
