I think you may need a new dish too. Even if you don't HD channels cost extra.

BTW, wrong forum.

I should have been clearer, my living room already has the hr20 hd-dvr box and I have the full-hd package. my bed room has a standard def box that they threw in as a freebie. So i have the proper dish and package.

You can probably switch them out then. You will still need that little box that goes between the cable and the STB.

Yes, you can buy a Direct TV receiver from Ebay or CL and call Direct TV to activate the receiver if the receiver comes with a programing card. If the new receiver doesn't come with a programing card you'll have to call Direct TV and they send you a new card for a fee. But you can't switch your old programing card to new receiver because the programing card is married to the old receiver. Be careful when buying old Direct TV receiver that comes with a programing card, if the previous owner has any PPV purchased on the programing card you'll be charge once you plug the receiver in the phone line.

what model receiver? and you will more than likely have to order a new card. it's ahrd to get them activate cards from different accounts. if it's not a newer model hd-dvr, i wouldn't bother getting it.
