can't decide which way i want to go. DirecTV has better programming, Dish is cheaper, and Digital Cable + existing internet would be easier. How would you go? i need HD programming also.

Which one would change channels the fastest? I'm in the same boat and need to choose between one of the three soon as well...

But does digital cable have

ABC HD east and west
CBC HD east and west
CBS HD east and west
City TV HD
CTV HD east and west
Discovery HD
2 Movie Central HD
NBC HD east and west
2 NCAA Sports HD
2 NFL Sunday Ticket HD
3 NHL Centre Ice
Oasis HD
PBS HD
Raptors TV HD
Rogers SportsNet HD
Treasure HD
TSN HD
6 Vu PPV

And once there is 8SPK DVB-S cards, even more HD goodness.

well.. i went and did it. I'm in Socal and with TimeWarner

Premium Internet (1000kb/s) + Digital Cable + 3 standard recievers (will switch out to HD receiver when i get my TV) = $99/mth for 3 months, then $119/mth after.

not too bad.

If you like Directv now, you should love them in the few months as they add more HD programming. They are in the middle of their MPEG4 rollout, and when it is done, they should be near the top for HD programming.

If I was starting out today I would go with digital cable. No upfront equipment costs and no long term commitment. If DirecTV delivers on their promises then you can always switch over to them once it is no longer just marketing talk. As it stands right now the only true HD programming I can get on DirecTV is the 4 local broadcast networks.

That's nice. How do you get those channels? What is 8SPK DVB-S? :p

Why is that? Along with the CBS, FOX, NBC, & ABC, I get HBO, Showtime, Discovery HD, HDnet, Universal HD, TNT, YES for my Yanks, and the Sunday Ticket. I'm pretty sure the other sport packages are in HD too. There are also PPV channels in HD.

I have Dtv only because the cable company here is crap. If Cox was here i'd switch in a heartbeat. HBO on demand is great.

Does anyone use DIsh Network and have anything good or bad to say?

I have Time Warner Cable and my special rate ran out and it went from $39.99/mo to $51.99/mo. And that's before the $8 rental fee for the remote and stuff. And this is their basic service with no premium channels or anything. SO my bill is about $60/mo just got plain old cable. That's rediculous.

Dish Network has some plans for only $39.99/mo that look like they include all the same standard channels that I watch anyway. But I only hear horror stories about the dish related things with bad weather and stuff like that.

The one to wait for is the HR20 HD DVR. The current HR10 HD DVR isn't mpeg4 compatible (although the HR20 receiver is).

There is no need for him to wait though, because new subs lease the equipment now. I think their new practice could kill DTV, at least for attracting new subs.
