i liked dish network, if your currently a cable subscriber you can haggle with them to get your monthly price dropped. I was able to get 4 months credit on my bill which save us over $400 last year alone, now i switched back to cable only after haggling with comcast for a couple of hours :) Now we get every channel and cable modem along with hdtv and 3 other recievers for $100 a month (which is a good deal considering there normal prices would put us in the $170 area.

I've had DirecTV for about 6 yrs. Since I live in the boonies I can't get local cable. Direct is good until they get it hook up. I've been trying to get a remote for three years. When you call in for tech you reach automated numbers until a person answers which is usually a contract person that knows nothing and then he/she will ask you to call DirecTV and the cycle continues again.

Before I get into this, yes I work for Dish Network.
Go with Dish Network. This is one of our major selling points. We constantly strive for and achieve < 5 minute hold times when calling in, and also single-call resolution. If you were with Dish, you would have had a new remote within a week or so of you calling the first time. Also, all of our people are fully trained. You have to go through 6 weeks of training before they even let you on the phone by yourself (prior to that, when you're not in the classroom, you've got a fully trained person there with you telling you exactly what's going on when you spend your day or so a week on the phones). As for the NFL ticket, yeah DirecTV has that over us. But unless you're huge into sports, and I don't mean a few games a week I mean every game possible on TV, it's not worth it. We've got lots of sports packages also, just not the 30 channel every game on at the same time package they have. Other than that, it's prettymuch the same programming with either company, they both have all the major channels, and HBO/Showtime/Cinemax/PPV's/Starz/Encore/whatever else go to both companies cause they make huge bucks that way.

In the end, it comes down to what's going to happen if/when you have a problem. Dish has that hands down over DirecTV.

Well. for one, only Directv has the proven Tivo technology in its PVR. Dish has its own PVR, but according to some reviews on the net, Dish's PVr technology lacks capabilities that are present on the Tivo plus in the opinion of others suffers from some serious quality control. If you do not care about built in PVR's, or have a stand-alone tivo, and do not care about sports, then get Dish, because of their programming choices. But then again, if you live in the boonies, you may be subject to NRTC regulations and limited in scope as to your directv provider. In which case, I would opt for Dish.
