DirecTV tivo question

Does it cost money to use a receiver such as the Philips DSR704 or the RCA DVR40 which have integerated tivos inside? Monthly fees or anything?

Are the only requirements an LNB with two outputs?

Is it possible you had an older box? Boxes released after 2002 were supposed to disable record if there was not an active subscription.

Maybe it had some mods?

At any rate, 5 bucks is worth it!

IIRC, the $5/month fee also covers ALL DirecTivo's in the house. Want to buy 3 of them? Still only $5/month!

I think you have to pay a fee to use the tivo. $5 a month

Its an additional $5 per month but its just $5 for the home, so if you were to get more than one DirecTivo you'd still only pay $5 total extra per month.

Partially correct...

$5/month does cover the TiVo fees for all receivers. But you still have to pay $5/month for each additional receiver in your home (whether or not they are TiVo).

can you just manually record without the fee?

No, record is disabled if you do not pay.

really? i was always able to use tivo manually without the service.

as mentioned above, the $5 is worth it

Do you have a regular tivo or integrated tivo?

I know for a fact you can use the standalone tivos without subscribing. It's basically a VCR then... no channel listings, wishlists, season passes, etc.

I'm wondering if it's different for directv units, though.
