Will a DirecTV satellite receiver still work if you disconnect your home phone line? I doubt it but just checking.

Is there anything you can do broadband wise, either wired or via WiFi?

We don't have our dishnetwork receivers hooked up to the phone line. You just won't be able to order PPV from the remote. I don't know if it's the same with DirectTV.

Yes, it will still work.

The only problem will be the fact that you can't order pay-per-view movies, as the receiver sends your billing info/movie selection via the modem built into the unit.

I've never hooked up my ExpressVu receiver to a phone line, and i've had no problems to this day. :)

is there a plan where you just install the dish and get basic service for free? like some of these asian dishes that give you free channels if you pay full installation.

I heard that it dials up once a month or something to verify you are still an active subscriber and to sync with billing. If you order PPV it doesnt dial out right away to update your order. So what keeps you from ordering PPV and disconnecting it? Doesn't make sense...

Never had my DISH receivers hooked to a phone line...ever.

It's only needed for PPV and, even then, with DISH, you can order PPV over the phone ($1 extra)

Thru the Satallite Direct TV can update you receiver speeding limit to $0 therefore you can't order PPV. Beside that, there is nothing stopping you from ordering PPV. The Direct TV smard card will hold a maximum of 25 PPV orders (I think), after that you'll have to call Direct TV to reactivate you PPV but when you call them they'll know you ordered PPV without your phone line plug in which mean you haven't pay all the PPV's you ordered that may be against you Direct TV contract.

It used to be that when you hit the PPV limit, DirecTV would shut down service until the receiver reported in ... not just PPV service, ALL service. You also had to call in to reactivate.

Also, if you have more than one receiver, both have to be on the same line, or they charge you as two seperate accounts (full charge, all boxes instead of $5.00 each for the extra boxes).

FWIW
