DirecTV satellite, do we need a Tri-LNB dish?

I'd suggest that you get Dishnetworks instead. The new superdish with 3 lnb (one with KU for the special 121 bird) lets you point to 3 birds at once.

DirectTV may come out with that soon, but I like the Dishnetworks for the hocky games.

Why should we get Dish over DirecTV?

One big reason we want DirecTV is because we already own a DirecTIVO.

He is talking about a 3 lnb dish anyway? Personally, I think DirecTV whips Dish's ass in all regards, but I guess it's realy a matter of what you want...

Good point.

Just make sure the dish that you're getting is the big one that at least let you point to two sats. More channels.

Direct TV is the only one with the FB package.

I will have Direct TV unitl they lose the exclusive rights to that package. Then I will shop around.

I believe that your direct TIVO will only work with Direct TV and not with the competitors.

DirecTV does have the 3 LNB dish, and also has the NHL Center Ice package. Neither of those are exclusive to Dish.

Is there anything exclusive to Dish???

Does Dish have the NFL Network?

Technically, with Dish, you could still get all the football games, I've heard tales of people getting local channels all over the states to watch all the football games. Dunno how much that would cost thou. You get what you paid for.

But to be honest, I think DirectTV and Dish are pretty much the same, even the porno channels.

Is that a 3LNB dish for 3 recivers or 3lnb dish for pointing at 3 sat.?

They do have better Chinese channels, not crappy ones from Mainland China.

3 Sats, anyway, you are in an area that doesn't need a 3 LNB dish for locals so basically its up to you, all you lose is a couple of regular channels (the only one of any importance to anybody is the nasa channel), the spanish programming and some (if not all) the HiDef channels, at least right now😀

LMK if you have any more ???s

WTT (DTV/Dishnet Installer)

You will want to have two sat feeds to each direcTivo if you wanna be able to watch one show while recording another. You can get 8 feeds max (with the tri LNB dish and a 5 x 8 multiswitch....another 100+ dollars!) so you're still covered.

Dish doesn't have sunday NFL ticket.........that alone made my choice for me between dish and DirecTV.

You'll also want to check and see if your locals are on a satellite that require a Tri-LNB dish, some of their markets do require it in order to receive the locals.

i'm having SOOO much trouble with Dish tech support. 🙁

i'm 3 weeks without service and it's STILL not fixed. 🙁

stay with DirectTV i doubt they can be any worse than Dish

PLUS get this, the tech that finally came out today after THREE WEEKS CAN'T FIX the problem because he isn't carrying the part we need. DISHTV wants to charge me S&H to SHIP THE FVCKING PART TO ME.

for 20 bucks it's a no brainer to get the triple lnb dish...in the future if you go with HDTV which you should you'd be set with the satellite...all you would need is the HDTV receiver and you would be good to go.

Don't cheap out for 20 bucks...it may be worth it later.

for $20, I'd definitely go for the triple-LNB dish. It's future proof for HDTV, and it has a built-in multiswitch with 4 outputs.

each lnb points at a different satellite.

if you don't have enough outputs for all your tvs you'll need a powered switch. you can get those at rad shac.

they are two satelites one carries all of the channels, and the other carries HDTV and spanish channels.

you need a dual LNB if you want to support a direct tivo device or 2 receivers. per satelite. So you could actually use two dishes or one oval one with 4 LNB.

Thereare splitters that will allow you to connect more then one receiver to your dish as well. I was given a link to a forum that told me everything I needed to know about direct TV.

now if I could only find it.

Thanks for all the replies.

It turns out there is no where to securely anchor a new DirecTV satellite and it requires a $150 refundable deposit.

So I'm switching to the dark side, Comcast cable ... yes it sucks but until we move into a HOUSE it's the best solution.
