DirecTV or Dish for Satellite?

Two simple ways to choose:

DirecTV or Dish are both digital signals. So, they ARE better then standard cable. Compared to digital cable you could argue I suppose....depends on your digital cable provider.

Regarding DVR's, Satellite is better, and here's why:

DirecTV = partnership w/ Tivo, and you can get combo DirecTV/Tivo Recievers that work great but it's $4.99 a month.

Dish = Proprietary Dishplayer service. I Had Dish 2 years ago when DishPlayer was relatively new, and it blew (my reciever did). I had the 7200 and it was replaced 3 times in one year. Supposedly their newer receivers are much better, but in my experience, I wasn't happy with Dish NEtworks Customer Service, and could not in good conscience recommend anyone use them.

So---comparing Digital Satellite to Digital Cable is really apples and oranges...but again....I went away from Digital Cable for the following reasons:
1. I lived in an apartment, and the Coaxial Cable they used was cheap as hell. Consequently even my digital cable got interference.
2. I have a stereo hooked up, and Digital Cable only provided at the time Analog Audio Outputs via RCA Cables.
3. NO potential at all for HDTV in the near future.
4. For the cost of digital cable premier package (all channels, no movie channels), I could get Sat + HBO.

As far as choosing between Dish and DirecTV===for me DirecTV has been great.

I have Dish Network and I am satisfied with my service. However, if I were choosing between the two today, I would probably go with DirecTV. As was previously stated, you can get a TIVO integrated receiver, and you can purchase a receiver made by other companies, such as Sony, instead of being forced to choose from Dish Networks weak line-up of receivers.

DirecTv for me all the way...

Add a Directivo (one in the living room, one in the bedroom) and you're all set!

I would never consider Dish unless they bought out DirecTv, which we saw would probably never happen.

Doesn't Dish network have their own PVR? My brother has Dish and has a PVR builtin to his reciever....

I vote for whichever one you can get the cheapest with a PVR.

Currently I have a Dish & Direct Sat up & working, both have their +'s & -'s

They change the way you watch TV, I promise...

You're not going to see much difference in picture quality unless you go with a HD IRD, of course, that's assuming you get an IRD with component out or SVHS out.

I have Dish Network, I like it very much...

I use a single PVR 721, dual tuners, record two programs at the same time, and even watch a third recorded program while recording two things in the background.

120GB hard drive, 100 hours record time...

: ) Hopper
