I did a search but with the search screwed the way it is I hope this isn't a repost. DirecTV has released a beta of their On Demand service. If you have an DirecTV HD DVR should be able to access it with a couple of caveats: You need a network connection and it needs to be broadband.

As of now the way it works is it downloads the program and saves it in your recordings folder and you access the program the same way you access any of your recorded shows. More detailed information and discussion here.

Yeah, I've been meaning to try this out but I need to find my longish ethernet cable for my receiver upstairs and I'd need to buy a wireless adapter for my receiver downstairs.

Still, it is a very cool add-on.

Yeah sounds neat...My DTV HD DVR isn't working great, I have to call them today and see if I can get it swapped.

I've had this for a while and so far it's pretty good. Needs more content but for being beta I'm happy.

Had DirectTV installed last Friday with an SD PVR, HD PVR, and HD Box (PQ kicks the everluvin crap out of cable). I networked the HD PVR (H21) box and the On-Demand feature works great.

Once you connect the HR20 into your home network you can also access pictures and mp3's from your computer if you go through the steps to configure it for that. There are 2 methods of setting that up, one uses Intel VIIV, the other uses media player's library function. Info on all that is over at the forum I linked in my OP as well.
