I just got DirecTV installed with the new promo and sweet multiroom DVR service, but the DVR capabilities seem extremely weak! You can either schedule a one time recording or a series.. seems like a series will record every occurrence of that show regardless if its new or not! Seems totally annoying, I switched from Dish Network which gave you a ton of recording features, such as recording only new episodes, keeping only an X number of a particular show! Am i missing something or is this how the DTV DVR service is??

I'm curious. When people ask you your anandtech forums handle in real life, and you reply DarkManX, do they laugh? I would.

You fail at life. My DTV DVR does all those things.

Even the IPHONE app will let me record only new episodes....

You need to be 10% smarter than the device you are trying to program in order to make it work.
Obviously you fail this test.

thanks for the link but I have the HR-24-500 without Tivo Software.

the problem is it looks like you can only do the advanced scheduling from the actual DVR box, the regular HD boxes can only do the basic features :\

That is correct - you can only manage recordings from the recording DVR. It's in the manual :). It was not clear from your original post that is what you were complaining about. I'm sure in subsequent firmware releases for the HD recievers boxes, they will add functionality.

thanks jerkoff, but the H24-100 does not have that option, so try not to talk shit if you are not 100% certain of the facts.

Yes it is but they don't have an HD DirecTV TIVO

Yup thats pretty shitty. Tivo used to have a deal with them, but not for quite some time now. Won't work with UVerse either. Will work just fine with rabbit ears/external antenna in HD for the quite superior picture quality that provides over satellite (in most cases).

Seriously though, are the shows you record reguarly on in HD on the "HD" versions of the cable chans?

They have not sold that DVR for a while. Dont know why somebody even posted a link to that manual is from 2004 for crying out loud.

The reason your dish service is like that is because the 1 DVR had outputs for two tv's, obviously the direct tv dvr only has 1.
Rumor is the functionality you are looking for is coming in a firmware update.

Thing is the h24-100 is not a dvr at all? Why would you think that you would have advanced recording functions on it anyway?

DirecTv has a channel that shows how to use the DVR -- to pause press the || button, etc. You can also watch videos on demand.

I see now that channel is really needed. You could go watch that...

... for a couple of days.
