Looking for TV + internet. I don't know which one to go for. Comcast has the advantage of cable internet (which they claim to be faster than dsl) and cheaper if you are a comcast cable TV subscriber. With the two others I will have to go for DSL. Any thoughts? Also, I will be getting an HDTV (plasma) so I will be looking at getting HD content fairly soon

If you subscribe to the basic/local/lifeline service level, you escape the $15 fee that Comcast imposes for HSI without cable.

That basic level of service is usually about $8-$9, so you'll escape about half of the difference. It also frees you up to go with another provider, if you should choose so.

(you also have a PM)

Comcast with their DVR for HD content. Cable internet @ 8mbps is wayyy faster than most DSL which is at 1.5mbps.

If HSI is a priority for you then cable is the only way to go at the moment in most locations. For HDTV cable has a limited selection of stations available that vary depending on where you are, Direct TV is in the process of transitioning to HDTV service in my area, but some places already have it available now, however IME their customer service leaves a lot to be desired if you need help.

I switched from DISH to Comcast cable mainly for the local HD content. Plus, regular channels look better on cable through my HDTV. DISH seems to overcompress the local channels and even some of the digital channels so it looked horrible on our 50" Samsung DLP. Cable looks better IMHO.

I did not vote for the option in which I actually subscribed to (DirecTV), because the one I voted for (Comcast) isn't available in my area. If Comcast were available to me, I'd probably be with them for HDTV.

DirecTV and Dish Networks both down-resolution their HD feeds to their subscribers. DirecTV has been doing 1280x1080 for their 1920x1080 sources, and Dish has been doing 1440x1080 for the same source material. This is in addition to their over-compression that many on AVSforums has observed.

I get much better satisfaction watching what HDTV is available off the air (DTV).
