When exactly is DirecTV coming out with their "150 channels" in HD. Commercials have been going for months.

I am switching from cable to directv soon and want to make sure the switch is for a reason.

Yeah, good question. I'm wondering when it's coming...HD is great, but it makes SD look so bad.

Are you sure that's not just a bogus number that is fluffed by adding local HD channels?

DirectTV was already bandwith deprived trying to the Sunday Ticket in HD. They dropped the compression on other channels to make room for football games on Sundays. Did they figure out a way to work around that?

The workaround is new satellites that are supposed to be up and running by fall.

New sat going up July 7.

They've already added local HD channels in most major markets. The new 150 HD channels are all supposed to be national HD channels.

I just hope they don't raise the price of the HD subscription.

I'm a dish network subscriber... anyone know if they'll be adding more HD channels too? Their selection right now is pathetic... :(

I don't even think there are 100 US HD channels in existence at the moment. DirecTV may have the capacity for 150 channels, but don't expect that number any time this year.

I read the DirecTV press release, but I guess I'll believe it when I see it. Looking at their current lineup, they don't have more than 30 channels currently (including premiums and sports channels), and I have a hard time believing that they'll add 70 more by the end of the year.

Actually they chew up a huge amount of their current available bandwidth delivering the locals in HD due to outdated and stupid regulations to ensure that we don't miss those thrilling local commercials.

I saw Jon Stewart was sponsored by Direct TV a couple weeks ago, and went they went to commercial break once it said something like, "Get Direct TV, because Jon Stewart is the only news anchor you should watch in High def." I didn't get it...nothing on Comedy Central is in high def. I watch Jon Stewart every night and he's never been in HD...will he be in HD in the future? Not according to that list.

only 6 more this year, and some of them will be pay channels. directv wanted to share bandwidth with dish network but charlie turned down the offer (although they made a joint bid for a commercial satellite co I heard) 622 is better than the hr20, but not better enough to turn down at least 80+ more hdtv channels i would think. i'm giving them about 10 months before switching

They've already had NFL Sunday Ticket in HD, and if I remember correctly it costs extra.

I didn't have an HD set last season. I've been subscribing to NFL Sunday ticket for years though.

Yeah, you have to buy the "Superfan" pack to the tune of an extra $100 over the Sunday Ticket Price. I had it comped to me the past two years (since its inception), before that the HD games were free with ST sub.

I couldnt get them to waive the fee this year, so I canceled my ST. First time in 10 years I wont get to see my games.. No biggie though, I'm a Lions fan I will probibly be better off not knowing ;)

$300+ for 1-3 wins a year is pretty painful :(
