Do the premium channels worth the cost? I don't really know what the advantage of DirectTV, so care to explain? Can I get it without an annual commitment?

I've been with them for almost 10 years. If you are a NFL fan, then it's a no brainer, DTV FTW! For standard tv, you really have to compare it yourself against your cable company. For me, DTV wins the price battle. Not as much as privious years, but it still has an advantage.

Cable may have an advantage as far as HDTV goes, but that will also vary from area to area.
DTV is in the middle of their MPEG4 rollout, and once it is done they should be at, or very near the top for HDTV content.

The one negative I have with DTV is their new leasing strategy. I think it will hurt them, but time wll tell.

I've had DTV for about 6 years now. I much prefer DTV over cable. Everytime I do a price/channel comparison between cable and DTV, DTV comes out on top.

Their new leasing strategy blows though. I guess it is ok if you are a new customer as you are more than likely able to get the receivers without paying anything upfront. But it really blows for existing customers who want to upgrade. I'm hoping they come up with a better plan when their new HDTV DVR comes out because paying $499 upfront for the privilege of leasing their current HDTV DVR is just flat out awful.

Personally I have had both DirecTV and Digital Cable. My digital Cable had very visual compression and pixelation, my DirecTV is very sharp and clear. It could be my location, but I am way happier with DirecTV.

Compared to what? DTV was $15/mo cheaper than cable, and that is not including the hidden charges of cable. By switching rom cable + cable modem to dsl + satellite, I am saving $30/month. The picture quality is MUCH better, I get digital sound, less outages (despite occasional bad weather ones - still less than cable outages i had), and more channels. No brainer for me.

I've been a DirecTV for 7 years now and love it. I have fewer outages than cable and much better quality.

We love it. I think that we have Total Choice Plus, which includes the 12 extra discovery, TLC, and History channels.

I'd rather have Cox cable. I moved about a year ago and Cox doesn't service this area so i got DirectTV. It's alright but i liked HBO on demand.

I've had it for 9 years and love it. They are having some issues with the HD rollout but overall I am a very satisfied customer. The big bonus is that I am not stuck watching nothing but Washington Deadskins football with the NFL package.

I've had Comcast HD DVR and DirecTV Tivo and like the DirecTivo more only thing I liked more on the Comcast was the HD content, but I can get some of the HD's off the air for free anyways.
