Anyone use DirecTV with a DVR?

I currently have Cable TV (expanded basic) and do not use a converter box.
I have a Philips DVR hooked up. It has ?TVGuide? feature that we use for recording. It shows the grid with chanels /shows, you just pick a show and it records.

I?m moving soon and the town that I?m moving to has Adlephia Cable, and I don?t like them, so I?m considering DirectTV instead. Plus, Verizin offered me a discount on DirectTV since I use the phone and ordered DSL from them.

Since DirectTV requires a box, I?m wondering if I there is a way to still use the DVR and it?s TVGuide recording feature. I think there?s a cable that hooks up with some converter boxes that allows this and will change the channels on the converter box to coordinate with the DVR.

Anyone have this setup at home? Or maybe have seen it ?

directv has its own dvr's with tivo. for 4.99/month you can have as many directivos you want running the tivo service. go to tivocommunity.com and check under the directv section.

Just get the DVR from DirecTV. It has dual tuners and is completely integrated. Its so cheap anyway. Well worth the money.

Yup. It's main advantage is that it has two tuners, so you can record, and watch a different program while it is recording.

The DVR we have is new. My wife just bought it for Christmas. I believe she paid a few hundred bucks for it, so I'd prefer to get some use out of it.

Worst case, I could always just record on chan. 3 and make sure the tuner's set to the right channel.
