DirectTv service question

trulfe

Senior member
I signed up for directtv for a year and I had it for approximately 4 months and then I moved into a condo that I bought. I called to transfer my service and they sent out an installer who basically said that directtv has no signal where I now live and that I should call to cancel. So I did and the lady said she would take care of everything so I wouldnt be charged fees since it isnt my fault that directtv doesnt have a signal where I now live.

Two months later I get my CC statement and there is a $137 fee on it from them...so I call and they tell me I was charged an early termination fee for not fullfilling my 1 year and I could fax a letter to dispute this charge to them.
I wrote them and now 25 days later still havent heard back. Im going to dispute the charges on my CC.
Has anyone had this happen or know what the rules are in this kind of situation? Thanks

If you got in on one of these promotional deals that gives you a free receiver, you likely agreed to maintain a subscription for at least a year. That's (usually) how they work.

We just switched over to Dish Network in this household so that we could get three receivers, and had to agree to stay subscribed for at least a year. If we break that contract, we have to pay a fee (I forget how much, though).

How can direct TV not have a signal there? If its becuase he can't point the antenna in the right direction its one thing but there is no way they don't "have a signal there"

the installer used a tool and said there was no line of sight for a signal...possibly because of trees in the courtyard...but im not sure if thats the reason.

Tool is normally a Suunto Tandem, basically we check the magnetic azmith (230 - 250 degrees in my area) and then check the elevation (33 @ 230, 28 @ 240 and 23 @ 250) if we can't "see" any one of them then its a no sight
