The director of my department has just asked me to go on a skiing trip along with my boss and another coworker. Everyone will be at least 48+ years old except me. I'm still under 30. It's weird because he didn't ask any other employees in my department that's around my age to go and he does not even talk to me that much. I don't think I will have any fun because I don't have much to say with a group of older men but I have a feeling if I say no, it'll seem really bad. What should I tell him if I don't wanna go? Or should I just go and take this as an opportunity to climb the corporate ladder?

Just a quick suggestion; don't fall through the ski lift, and if you do, don't let anyone take pictures.

Free food/drinks is the last thing I really care about. I don't have any gear and I've never skied. I'd need to rent all the equipment.

You need to think about the big picture. Why is the director inviting you on a skiing trip? Would it be good for your career to go on this trip and get to know everyone better? What you know isn't nearly as important as who you know.

Just think of it as work, and how much more fun this will still be than a typical day. Get in good ftw.

This.

Basically, if a person who is in charge of you in a work setting invites you to do something, unless you have a good reason not to, you go do it. These people are the ones that will recommend you for promotions, raises, etc. Don't ignore them.

If you want a good career path at all, you'd go. Otherwise, it'd look really bad. Not team spirited, and not willing to parley with higher ups? Yeah, that'll look pretty bad.

In these economic times, you should be kissing as many asses as you can (until chapped raw). If you don't like skiing, just go down a few times with your bosses and then sit and drink cocoa in the lodge.

The question you have to ask yourself is this: Is advancing your career worth a little sodomy?

Yep, sounds like they want to him to be their bitch and make him squeal like a pig.
