DirecTivo or ReplayTV

I'm trying to figure out whether I should get a sat and directivo or stick with my local stuff and get replaytv.
-Reasons for sat would be all the extra stations. $40 a month free tivo receiver
-Reasons for ReplayTV DVArchive would let me store my programs on my home server. But its $12.95 just for the service and $140 for a 5040 receiver.

Another thing I have to consider is right now theres lots of trees surrounding my house and in the summer not sure if I could get a clear view of the sky(even ontop the roof) so not sure how well sat will perform in the summer, but we are going to moving this winter, so will probably have a better view than. Any opinions on this would be appreciated. I've never had cable or sat so I can live w/o it but paying 12.95 a month just for the replaytv service plus $140 for the unit is hard to grasp also😛

Sat/DirecTiVo is your best bet. If the trees block the signal, just wait until you move.

Is it possible to pull shows off the directivo through an ethernetjack(does it even have an ethernet jack)?

Replay is a sh!t company that sends jobs to india to support US users. puts stickers that says free 3 months and you have to argue with them for 2 weeks to hopefully get them not to break the law. sh!t company

seems like directivo's the choice, going to have to do some reading up on hacking now😛 Does it come with an ethernet port?

It has USB ports that are enabled via the hack and then you use a USB-->ethernet adapter

DirecTivo just because it doesn't recompress the video, it takes the actual stream and saves it to disk.

DirecTivo you can have Dual Tuner support. Record two channels at the same time.

DirecTivo is nice... unless you want to record from a source other than DirecTV. If DirecTV does not offer local channels in your area, and you get them via antenna or cable, you can't use the DirecTivo to record them.

Something to think about.
